6TH  May 2015

Well twenty four days in the job, and its been pretty hectic, all Affiliated Clubs have received a letter from me,and still a number have not sent their 2015 Subscriptions, if you can forward these on it would be appreciated. after a request at the AGM, a number of panel Judges have received letters asking if they were still actively involved, feedback not bad, but could have been better, a new judging Panel List is now on our site.Four Judges have been contacted re judging or Fife National in Stafford, waiting for confirmation.I attended the parrot society pre National meeting in Stafford along with Tony carline and got some good feedback. This year we will put on a good Show with Replicas for Best in Show – Best Champion Best Novice and Best Junior. If any one out there would like to donate a Trophy for Best in Show this would be appreciated, but would remain a Perpetual trophy, not to be won outright. rosettes would also be appreciated from member clubs for specials, please forward them on to me.This year there will be a proper booking in and out of birds, security will be tighten up. A proper formal Presentation of Prizes will  take place at 15-00pm. I will be having show schedules and catalogues along with Awards sheets printed.Other idea’s I have in my vision to improve the image of the Fife Fancy include a possible journal (small scale to start with) lapel badges. But Like I said in my previous notes I need your help and support. Finally all Affiliated Clubs will receive a copy of the AGM minutes and revised Panel Judges lists either by e-mail or post during the next ten days.

12th May 2015

The updated Panel Judges List, Specialist Clubs lists and AGM minutes have or will be sent out either by e-mail or post during the next week. Sorry to here that one our member clubs the London FFCC has finished, after just two years. I hadn’t attended one of their Shows, but I understand the venue, was excellent and there was a good team of helpers, but like Garry Macbeath told me they couldn’t get above 450 birds, and the expense of fanciers travelling long journeys to compete is a factor, that all clubs face.

Other news, still waiting confirmation from two of the judges by post for our Show in October in StaffordThe rosettes have been ordered for the colour specials along with first prize rosettes for all class winners.Looking into ordering the Replicas for Best in Show – Best Champion – Best Novice and Best Junior,I’m still hopeful that someone out there will donate a Perpetual Trophy for Best In Show.

21st May

Latest news on our Show to be held on Sunday 11th October 2015 at the Stafford Showground, Stafford.Judges engaged will be Terry Kelly – Alan Wilson - Mick Major – Patrick Major all from England, these judges between them have judged most of the premier Fife Shows in the UK and Europe.Due to the generosity of the fife fanciers out there, the prize money this year will top £400 an increaseof £150 which will be spread amongst the coloured section winners and the Best in Show and Best Novice.More fanciers have pledged their support at £10, it would be nice to obtain a Perpetual Trophy for Best in Show, If we could obtain a sufficient amount of money. This along with the Replicas that we will obtain for Best in Show – Best Champion –Best Novice – Best Junior will make it the best ever presentation ever at Stafford. If there are any body who would like to pledge their support for £10, apart from those of you who have already either sent or who have already contacted me with their support, please contact me ,details below. This may well be a better and fairer option to obtain a nice trophy than for one individual to purchase a trophy.  whichever way, may I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support since I have taken over, like I said in my previous notes, together we can take the Fifes up to a higher level. The Fife Show in Stafford this year will be the best ever staged, It would be nice to see us top 600 entries, those of you who have been disappointed in the past, give it a try again this year, you will not be disappointed. Just to remind you :- There will be better all round security – Better booking In and out procedure –A formal Presentation of prizes – Rosettes for all class winners – a complete list of winners in a Show Catalogue Photographs of the main winners.I know its early in the year, but will all club secretaries send their show Results to our Chairman Jim Watkins as in previous years. (I will remind you all again later in the year) we may well introduce a points system on the Show results and have a trophy for most points. (This would be a another first introduced) I’m in the process of finding out the Best Fife in show at the National since the Fife’s came into there own right at the Olympia in 1959, prior to then they had been entered in AOV. That first Fife winner was J.McLauchlin (Can anyone confirm that he was Scottish) This year will be the 43rd Fife National, I hope to have all the winners listed in our Show schedule, which will also include other news and articles. Well that’s it for now – Please either e-mail me, or phone if you will donate £10 towards a Trophy worthy of the Federation for Best in Show on either :- 01492-517981

Will Club secretaries note that within the next ten days I hope to deposit the cheques that have been sent on for subscriptions into our new account in North Wales. Creating a new account with new signatures has taken longer than I thought, but hopefully this should be sorted soon. Will keep you all informed with what’s happening, enjoy your hobby, lets get more interested in the Fife Canary, lets all support each other – Dave Shelbourne Fife Fancy General Secretary. 21ST May 2015.

19th June

To All Clubs,& Members who have donated cheque for our Show, please note the following :-

On the 13th April I formally applied to open up a new account for the Fife Fancy Federation with Lloyds  Bank here in Colwyn Bay. The application was duly forwarded to their commercial department for clubs, Societies etc in London. I have rung their main office in London for over two months and have had the local manager in Colwyn Bay also chase them up.

Their explanation for the delay is a backlog of application and shortage of staff. I can only apologies  to one and all, and hope it will soon be sorted out. the e-mail I had on 13th April after starting the procedure for opening the account read " Your new account can be open within 7-10 working days of the signed application being received"

David Shelbourne

General Secretary

Those wanting a show schedule for the Fife Fancy Canary National Exhibition Show to be held at the Stafford Show Ground on Sunday 11th October 2015 please contact the General Secretary - David Shelbourne on 07879864472 for a copy.

9th July.

Firstly I still havn't been able to Open an account for the Fife Federation with Lloyds, since starting the process on 13th April. This request has now escalated to the highest level, and hopefully on my return from a short brake will be resolved. On a more positive note, I have contacted those fanciers who entered the National Fife Show in 2014 along with those who have contacted me, and at the moment around 60 plus fanciers are showing a 90 + per cent interest in exhibiting on the 11th October at Stafford. If these fanciers entered on average 15 birds each we could have an entry of 900 plus birds. That would be by far the biggest Fife Show held at Stafford. So I'm asking you to get more to exhibit, schedules are ready and will be sent out on my return, You will see when you receive your schedule what there is to be won, More prize money -  Trophies for the first time in Stafford - Rosettes for every class winners - All round better security- Presentation of Prizes - Show Catalogue. To have a 1000 Fifes on show is my aim, if not this year, may be in 2016.Your views either by Face Book or by sending me an e-mail at dafyddshelbourne @ gmail.com or leaving a message on my Guest Book page on www.internationalfifecanaries.co.uk on producing a Yearly International Fife Canary Journal would be appreciated possible to be printed in May every year. this would contain Show Results, Articles from around the World, Adverts etc.The response through Face Book to date has been very encouraging not just from the UK also from Denmark, Belgium, Malta, Canada, Germany and France.Your views on obtaining rings in bulk to benefit not just you as fanciers, but also added income to the Federation. Finally my thanks to Henry Cooper who has presented the Federation with a great Banner for our Show, so no one will miss were we are situated in the Hall..photo below of me and Tony Carline on the right holding the banner.

 8th August

It is with deepest sympathy that I have to inform the Fife World of the death of Werner Kolter Germany. Werner was a founder member and former chairman of the Border,Fife Club Deutscland. He was a com/panel judge and was respected throughout the Cage Bird World, he wrote some excellent articles and I had his permission a few months ago to re-print his research in the history of the Dewar Cage, which will be published in our Show Schedule this year.

He visited me in September 2012 ,it was a pleasure to be in his company. On behalf of the Fife Fancy Federation I extend my sincere condolences to Ellen and Family.

14th August 2015.

At last I'm pleased to say that the new Fife Fancy Federation account has now been activated and all cheques paid in today. This process has taken over four months to complete. I've also started sending out the schedules for our Show, with over seventy fanciers applying for entries etc, I hope to complete this request by tomorrow.

 19th August.

An updated version of the fife Fancy federation Rule Book will be available at the National Show at the nominal price of £2 each. If any of you have good quality photographs of your birdroom,in or out,or of an exceptional bird that you have bred I may well produce a Fife calendar ready for the National. I would then choose the best 12 for each month of the year.

28th August

The Fife Federation National Show committee met on Thursday 27th August at Tony Carline's home to finalise the arrangements for the forth coming Show to be held on Sunday the

11th October 2015. Over eighty show schedules have now been sent out -exhibitors are reminded that entries have to be in the Show secretaries hands by Saturday 26th September- No phone entries excepted. The committee were impressed with the Trophies to be won and replicas. The Main Trophies i.e. for Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex will be presented on the Day, but will remain in the Federation hands, due to their value.

 16th September 2015

To all Fife Fanciers :- Closing date for entries for the forth coming National Fife Show is Saturday 26th September. No phone entries-No late entries excepted. Get those entries in and lets make it the biggest Fife National ever held at Stafford - David Shelbourne General Secretary.

28th September

Records tumble for forth coming Fife National at Stafford on 11th October with 662 Champion birds,241 Novice birds entered by 69 exhibitors entering a record 903 Fifes

2nd October

Its the count down for the biggest entry of Fife Canaries ever held at the National since it moved to Stafford in 2010, yes 903 entries. If I'm re-elected next year and its a successful show, I predict that there will be over 1000 Fifes there next year. Good Luck to all those who have entered.

18th November

Well its that's time of year Shows in full swing, with new names appearing in the results as well as those who have been at the top for a number of years it is also good to see Clubs forwarding their results to our Federation Website Co-ordinator Terry Cockburn. The Federation are very fortunate to have Terry, his input is much appreciated.

The Fife National was a big success, record entries, record prize money, fantastic trophies all due mainly to you the fanciers-a big thank you for your support and confidence in me as your secretary.

The Show committee met before the National and have met after the Show to discuss further improvements for the 2016 event, lets beat the 903 entry we had this year, and make it 1000 plus in October 2016.

Soon I will be informing all clubs of the Federation Annual General Meeting which will be held on Sunday 10th April 2016 in Blackpool. You need to attend your meetings so that you can submit any new mandates that can be sent back to me, so that I can enable to distribute them back to all clubs in plenty of time. there are a total of 23 clubs affiliated to the Federation, it would be good to see all twenty three represented in Blackpool.

I hope that in my position as General Secretary since April 2015, that you have seen improvements. We need to make even more improvements in the years to come, the Fife Fancy has probably the largest amount of followers in the Cage Bird World. As a governing body we need to "UNITE AS ONE"

25th December
By now all the Specialist Fife Federation Clubs in the UK,Ireland & Europe will of received my letter and will have had their meetings to discuss mandates for the Annual General Meeting of the Federation in April 2016.
What have we in the future for the Fife Fancy Canary, will we get unity amongst all the specialist clubs. I am sure that the majority of Fife fanciers desire one set of classification. I have travelled many miles and will continue to do this to help in any way possible to gain unity amongst Fife fanciers. We must unite as one, to achieve this the larger clubs must lead the way. Is the present day Fife to the standard as was laid down when it was first introduced, that it should not exceed four and a quarter inches, the head should be small, round and neat, the beak fine, eye's central to the roundness of the head. The body should be well filled and nicely rounded running almost in a straight line from the gentle rise over the shoulders and back to the base of the tail, chest also rounded but neither heavy nor prominent. The wings should be compact and carried close to the body meeting at the tips, just below the root of the tail. Legs should be of medium length, showing a little thigh. Plumage should be firm and fine quality whilst the tail should be close ,packed  and narrow being nicely rounded and filled in at the root. The position of the Fife should be semi-erect, standing at an angle of sixty degrees, gay, jaunty with full poise of head. The colour should be rich, soft and pure as level in tint as possible throughout, and finally the bird must be in good health. We have a model, were a lot of the original standards that I have pointed out still exsist, do we (inc myself, as panel judges) judge to the standard, how many of the major award winners come near to the present model.
We have something that is still a great pleasure to aim at in the breeding room. I hope we all continue to thrive towards breeding more consistency in the Fife Canary, which is gaining in popularity each year. Whilst I have expressed my views, I am looking forward to a good turn out amongst the twenty three affiliated clubs at the Annual General Meeting in Blackpool on Sunday 10th April 2016. and hope we make more progress in achieving unity amongst the biggest following of any variety of Cage Birds in the UK.

10th April

An excellent turnout resulted in 15 affiliated clubs from England,Scotland,Wales,Northern Ireland and the Rep of Ireland attending the Fife Fancy Federation Annual General Meeting in Blackpool on Sunday 10th April 2016.

Minutes of the AGM will be circulated to all affiliated clubs within the next 10 days, but the following mandates need to be implemented ASAP

Classifications :- The Gold classification for Specialist Fife Club Shows see attached is to be put into use as from this year 2016. If a club wishes to add flighted and junior classes this acceptable.

The Silver classification is to be used and encouraged by Cage Bird Society Shows. flighted & junior classes left to the clubs to decide.

Also carried through at the AGM was that  "To avoid confusion and misinterpretation the three year rule(Rule16) should be dropped, any proposals that are voted in at the Federation AGM should become active that year. The three year rule for term of office, should remain for continuity

An addition to Rule 10b :- If elected as a panel judge the fancier must continue to keep Fife canaries, and show at least three times yearly at Fife Fancy Federation Patronage shows to remain on the panel.
